Dec 20 2018 – VA Benefits

December 20, 2018 12:00 p.m. – Veterans benefits for Long-term care services

In our practice of estate planning, we come across many clients that want to plan for their long-term care.  Many of them are veterans and want to know what benefits are available to them when they no longer can live independently.

The VA has many different benefits and are categorized as a pension income benefit or a healthcare benefit.  The VA is actually divided into three divisions.  Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) that provides financial and other forms of benefits to veterans and their survivors and dependents. VA Health Administration (VHA) operates an integrated healthcare system and other health and counseling facilities.  Under the VHA, a veteran can received hearing aids and wheel chairs for a minimal cost or sometimes for at no cost.  The last of the three divisions is the VA Cemetery that operates 131 national cemeteries in the US providing memorial benefits for eligible service members and their families. In this seminar, we will focus on the pension benefits from the VBA, specific to paying for long-term care.
